about

A borrowed tune from another band, I couldn't stop listening to the day I heard not-so-cryptic messages over the internet suggesting Anthony's health was rapidly declining. Walking dogs, I walked through the city and thought about death, and about how ephemeral some of the best things really are. I wrote a letter to Anthony that day, after writing this song. I sent it, but he would pass sometime later that night. He would never read it, or hear this song. This one's for Anthony Poynter, a punk rock saint from Lexington, KY.

Sample from the 1960 TV-movie version of Peter Pan, starting Mary Martin as Peter. Music by Mark "Moose" Charlap.

lyrics

i heard a grieving chorus say
Anthony is on his way
on his way out
i heard a grieving chorus cry
"why do the good ones have to die?
seemingly way before their time?"

i thought about it walking through the city
how everything good and young just fades away
more reason to live it up today

pick up the pen and try to write you
but i don't know what good that'll do
yeah, I don't think that that would help...
if we all had your courage
if we all had your heart then this
cancer eating at our world
would have never gotten it's start

i thought about it walking through the city
how everything good and young just fades away
more reason to live it up today
i thought about it walking in the city
how everything good and young just fades away

i'm gonna feel sad all day
i'm gonna feel sad all day
i'm gonna feel sad all day

you were so giving
i was so lazy
you were so giving
my mind is hazy
you were so giving
this world was crazy
to take you from us
we weren't ready
you're never ready

tell your friends every day that you love them
and you would miss them if they were to go away
tell your friends every day that you love them
and you would miss them if they were to go away
don't go away!
